Friday Fictioneers is a weekly blog link-up based on a photo prompt. The Challenge – write a one hundred word story inspired by the picture that has a beginning, middle, and end. (No one will be ostracized for going a few words over the count.) The Key – make every word count. Up to the challenge? Join in!
As kids, Nicky and I weren’t allowed in Grandpa’s workshop, but if we slipped around back and tossed pebbles at the window he’d lower the rope-ladder so we could sneak in unbeknownst to Mom and Dad. They knew full well what was happening. They also left us our secret. Dad has taken over Grandpa’s shop, creating second-generation, commissioned artwork from driftwood and discard, bits and pieces of bottles, tiles, broken clocks, and cracked pots, turning the unwanted into the highly desired, and the next generation of grandchildren have sworn on the pouch of pebbles not to tell mom or dad.

Dear Melanie,
A rather sweet family tradition I think. Great memories for the narrator and generations to come. Nicely done.
