“E twenty-seven,” the Bingo caller yelled.
There is no E. I need new batteries in my hearing-aids, Betty thought as she searched the B-column on her cards.
“E forty-eight,” echoed through the Bingo hall.
The number snapped Betty to that night fifty years ago. The night she ran until her shoe slipped off at parking spot number E48. She saw it topple off the curb to the street. Then he was on her. Then she was on the ground. Her stockings torn, purse gone.
She looked up to the caller to exit the memory. Bingo! That’s why he looked familiar.
