Friday Fictioneers is a weekly blog link-up based on a photo prompt. The Challenge – write a one hundred word story that has a beginning, middle, and end. (No one will be ostracized for going a few words over the count.) The Key – make every word count. Up to the challenge? Join in!
It was one of those moments. The kind that when you look back the memory is all Hollywood, never-mind the giant zit and frizzy hair that were really there.
John’s arm was around my waist, but then both arms were and he swept me up as quickly as the courage had lifted him. Next thing I know we’re on the ground, both of us with scraped elbows.
When we finally stopped laughing and sat up to breathe he looked at the bottom of his shoe and found this nasty, hairy lollipop stuck there. And then we laughed some more.

SHOUT OUT
Thank you to all of you for reading, commenting, and generally being supportive over the last six months. Because of this challenge and the practice of brevity it offers I was able to say out loud and with confidence, “I can make 100 words feel like 1,000.” And very good things came from that seemingly simple 8-word sentence.
Thank you even more to Rochelle for all your work, your enthusiasm for this role you have. Thank you for being supportive of the writers joining in this venture, and for being dependable and consistent with the postings.

I’m betting the hairy lollipop (yucky!) is not going to spoil their mood! Nicely written, Melanie.

Thank you Amy. I agree. I think they’re entirely too happy in the moment for dirty lollipops and bloody elbows to ruin the day.

I wonder how many lollypops there are. I did the lollypop, too.:-) It is a tough prompt. You did a nice job.

A lollipop story seems a good way to go. It’s so fun to read all the different lollipop-inspired stories.

Nice job, Melanie! I may have to give this a whirl, if only to get a break from the mind boggling, heart slogging, efforts to subvert the prejudiced and oppressive. 😀

Thank you Robyn! I’m partial, but I say go for it. It’s a fun challenge and a great group.

Dear Melanie,
Ah the things that make us laugh in certain situations. Cute story.

This ran “all Hollywood” through my mind, hazy light and all. Well done.

Thank you Alicia. It ran all Hollywood in my imagination as the moment revealed itself.

She’s already overcome her giant zit and frizzy hair – some old lollipop isn’t going to spoil her moment at all.

She certainly has. There’s too much happiness for a zit and messy hair to matter and I think she’ll always laugh at that lollipop.
