Long before the steps decayed, before they cracked and the railing rusted, before weeds grew through gaps; long before Janitor Jamison taught the delinquent-becoming teens of Jones High the consequences of an ill-spent youth while they scrubbed the scuffs from the floors and toilets as punishment for skipping class and smoking on campus, Jamison was one of them. Of course, then, Jones High was new and the stairs leading off campus were as bright and shining as his future; the future he squandered skipping class and smoking on campus without a Janitor Jamison to lead him in a better direction.
